President's Message

Now that our October 2017 York train meet is behind us I am pleased to report that this show was very well attended. We sold out all of our member and dealer tables as well as all the dealer booths. This was the second time that the show was open to the public in our two dealer halls and the Black hall for the train club display layouts.

York Meet Wrap Up: April 2017

Well, that is a wrap for the April 2017 York Meet. It would not be the huge success that it was without all the hard work of the many volunteers and staff who donate countless hours of their time for the Greatest Train Meet around.

A big "Thank you" to everyone’s dedication, which was instrumental in making Spring April 2017 York a success for all who attended. There were approximately 10,086 people in attendance, which included members, families and guests.

There was plenty of trains and camaraderie to go around. Children of all ages enjoyed the amazing operating layouts that were on display, thanks to Stillmeadow Crossing Modular Train Group from York, PA; Eagle Line Railroad from Ridgely, MD; North Penn Modular "S" Gauge Train Club from Landsdale, PA; and Washington & Old Dominion "S" Gauge Club from the Washington DC area. Thanks to all the clubs for sharing their handy work.

And for the first time ever, the Dealer Halls were opened to the public both Friday and Saturday, with extended hours on Saturday, which brought in an additional 600 attendees and their families. A lot of effort was put in to reach this great milestone in York Meet history. A special thanks to Atlas O Trains, Bachmann Trains, Lionel Trains, and MTH trains for donating door prizes for a few lucky public attendees who completed a postcard to remain on our mailing list to be informed of our future train meets.

We welcomed over 450 guests who registered to attend the April 2017 meet. We want to remind you to bring as many guests as you want as there is no limit in the number of “first time” guests you may bring.

You’ll find the guest form on our website (Guest Form). Register them early and get the advance discount pricing. Remember, a guest may attend one time and then they are expected to join the TCA to continue attending the York Train Meet and enjoy visiting not just the Dealer halls, but the Member halls, as well. Many guests continue to express their interest in TCA and have now become members. April York proved to be a successful recruiting effort for the TCA as over 100 new members joined, which doubled the amount that joined in October.

The October 2017 Meet Notices are being finalized and one will be in your mailbox by mid-July. If you don’t receive yours by mid-August, please Contact Us. Online registration is always an option and don’t forget you can call the Eastern Division Call Center at 1-814-928-0196 to pay by credit card.

We again offered members the opportunity to pre-register for the upcoming meet. If you didn't take advantage of this convenience, please try it at the next show. A sign up table will be located across from the Registration Desk. Put that on your list of places to stop while wandering through the Silver Hall in October. The advantages for pre-registering:

  • Convenience - do it at the meet and forget about it until you receive your badge in the mail.
  • Cost - we pay the postage.
  • Time saver - you save time as you no longer need to wait for the meet notice to arrive, then complete the form, put a self-addressed stamped envelope in with your registration form and make a trip to the post office.
  • Accuracy of information - ensuring the information we have on file is correct and eliminating errors due to illegible penmanship.

Everyone should consider using this method to register for the next meet. We'll begin mailing badges out in mid July to those members attending the meet only.

Just a reminder: if you're a table holder or dealer, your badge(s) will be mailed starting the end of September 2017. If you pre-registered, you will still receive a meet notice for informational purposes only. No need to submit a registration form and if you're not sure if you pre-registered → contact us.

Have a great summer. We look forward to seeing you all again in October.

The York Train Meet has a long history dating back to 1964 when it began holding its first train meet in the Blue Hall, also known as Memorial Hall. When you hear the old timers tell how they used to secure their tables, you can't help but smile. It was a free for all and whoever managed to get to the table first laid claim to it for the entire meet. Read more...
